A practical packing checklist for your trek

Pack around your itinerary, accommodation and included equipment—not a one-size-fits-all bag size.

A practical packing checklist for your trek

Read the inclusions first

Check the accommodation, meals, transport and equipment sections on your selected trip page before packing. A camping trek needs a different approach from a hotel-based tour. Ask whether sleeping equipment is supplied, whether you carry your full bag on walking days, and whether any equipment hire or baggage service has a separate charge. Do not assume that a service included on another itinerary is included on yours.

Build a small layering system

Choose clothes that can be combined as the conditions change: a comfortable walking layer, a warm layer and protection from wind or rain. Keep one dry change separate from the clothes you walk in. Confirm the expected conditions with the team before selecting insulation. A fixed 40-litre bag is not a rule; the appropriate capacity depends on what you must carry and how the trip is supported.

Prioritise the things you use on the trail

Discuss suitable footwear, water capacity, sun protection, a head torch and personal toiletries with the team. Try footwear before departure rather than wearing an untested pair on a long walking day. Keep water, rain protection and essential personal items easy to reach. Pack out your waste and avoid carrying unnecessary disposable packaging into mountain camps.

Keep personal needs separate

Bring the identification required for your trip and confirm any registration documents in advance. Carry prescribed medicines with their instructions, and speak to a qualified clinician about personal health concerns rather than relying on a packing article. Ask the team for a final checklist tied to your departure and check the exclusions so equipment purchases or rentals do not become surprises.
