Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Can I carry homemade food or ready-to-eat items from India?
Yes, you can carry dry snacks like theplas, poha packets, ready-to-eat meals, or Maggi (sealed & packed only). Avoid carrying anything with liquid, ghee, or fresh fruits — it might get stopped at airport security.
2. Do I need to carry Malaysian Ringgit from India or can I exchange there?
You can do either ✅ Most travellers carry some Ringgit (MYR) from India and exchange the rest at Kuala Lumpur airport or city money changers (rates are often better there). 💡 Tip: Keep around ₹8,000–₹10,000 worth of Ringgit for initial expenses.
3. Is drinking water safe in Malaysia?
It’s better to drink bottled or filtered water only. Hotels provide complimentary bottles daily. You can also refill at restaurants or use a travel bottle with filter.
4. Is Malaysia expensive for shopping?
Not really — Malaysia is cheaper than Singapore and Dubai for branded shopping. Electronics, chocolates, perfumes, and local souvenirs are good buys. Popular shopping areas: Bukit Bintang (KL) & Cenang Street (Langkawi).
5. Will I get a SIM card or internet there?
Yes! You can buy a local Malaysian SIM (Digi / Maxis / Celcom) at the airport itself. Average cost: ₹600–₹800 for 5–7 days (with 10–20 GB data). Or you can use international roaming / eSIM if your Indian plan supports it.
6. Do I need to carry a universal adapter?
Yes, absolutely! Malaysia uses the UK-style 3-pin plug (Type G). Carry at least one universal adapter for charging your phone, camera, and power bank.
7. How much cash should I carry for personal expenses?
Most travellers spend around ₹15,000–₹25,000 per person for shopping, extra meals, and small activities. Card & forex payments work everywhere, but it’s good to keep some cash for street food, cabs, or local tips.
8. Will my Indian SIM or UPI work in Malaysia?
UPI / Paytm / PhonePe won’t work there. Some Indian postpaid SIMs have international roaming — check with your operator. For convenience, we suggest getting a local SIM on arrival.
9. What kind of clothes should I wear?
Malaysia is hot and humid, so wear light cottons. Carry one modest outfit (shoulders & knees covered) for temple visits like Batu Caves. Also pack swimwear for beaches & cruises and a light jacket for Genting Highlands.
10. What happens if my baggage gets delayed or lost?
First, don’t panic 😅 — it’s rare but can happen. Report it immediately at the airline counter before leaving the airport. They’ll track and deliver your bag to your hotel. That’s why we recommend keeping essentials, a change of clothes, and medicines in your cabin bag.
